Can you bring in the audio file (not the session file) via other import options, such as Import Audio, or locating it in the workspace browser and dragging it to the track list or to and empty space on the edit window playlist area?

Glad you were able to import the audio.
You should be able to bring it in via "Import Session Data", however this is a much more complex process and to try and determine why exactly it is not working for you would be quite difficult via forums. You might check the manual on this process and make sure you are doing everything correctly. It is certainly a much more elegant way to move audio from one project to another.
