Waveform cut off? 7 Months, 3 Weeks ago Karma: 0
I'm a new user. ProTools HD3 Accel into Mac Pro and C-24 Interface. I have a question about a waveform I occasionally see. It looks normal on the top half, but the bottom half is cut flat just below the mid-point in the waveform. It does't seem to be clipping on either the preamp meter or in Pro Tools. Nor does the sound seem distorted. I most recently observed this while recording bass guitar through an plug in compressor and EQ. Is this a bad thing?

It sounds like you have "draw waveform rectified" turned on in the preferences.

I was hoping that was the answer but I double-checked that. Nothing is "rectified." I'll try changing the track height and see if that does anything.

If you've got a mac and a mighty mouse, you can hold down the alt key and scroll left and right to increase the waveform view. It also zooms in if you scroll up and down. Nice little shortcut.

what happens when you turn on rectified? does it change the view at all?

that's the only thing I can think of it being....unless it's a DC offset issue. And that would have to be one hell of an extreme offset.
