I apologize in advance for wasting anyone's time with this question, but i'm just wondering. I have recently started to record on my own after many years of playing music. So i was just wondering if i'm off to a good start gearwise. So i have pro tools M-powered, a firewire solo interface and a behringer xenyx (8 input) mixer. I also have various MIDI pads/synths. So am i off to a good start?

soundnewbie,
well depends on what you're planning on doing. for simple song construction and idea development you're not doing to shabby.
but it's difficult to really record a full band without at least an 8 input interface. for example i daisychained my Motu 8PRE into my Digi 003 rack so I've got 8 channels from the MOTU and another 8 from the 003. This way I've got all the inputs i can use.
just out of curiosity, what kind of music do you play?

Yeah mostly simple song construction and idea development is pretty much what i'm going for as of yet.
And in regards to genre, it ranges from which band i'm playing with. the one i'm most involved in is sort of an alternative/hip hop fusion sound, another one is straight up rock, and then i'm in a jazz combo too.

I would say "yes". I am fairly new as well and am using the 002 system with a couple of keyboards and guitars. I use loops as well for some recordings. You are doing fine.
