external hard drive problem with Iomega silver 8 Months ago Karma: 0
Does anyone know if the Iomega silver series 120mb usb/firewire drive is compatible w/ PT LE. I copied my sessions over to this drive and checked it at home. It worked fine.
Now I am in LONDON, UK and my regions have disappeared. The tracks are there with a pale blue region box but no waveforms.

Any thoughts, help! thx, Tman

What system are you working on and what is the harddrive formatted to?

Running Mac OS 10.4.9 and Mbox 1, got the hard drive from the apple store and just plugged it in without formatting the drive. The Iomega seemed to work fine, when I transferred files onto it from my Glyph Drive. Tested a Session and everything ran okay.

Anyone in London,UK to connect with by phone ? Or know of someone or a shop who might have a clue about this ?

My Glyph drive is back in Toronto, so I'm out of luck if I can't fix this problem.

thanks again, Tman

Do a get info on the drive and see what its formatted to; generally out of the box drives are formatted to FAT32 which will run on both PC and Mac. The problem with this file system is it has a 2gb maximum file size limit, and also Pro Tools will only read from it. If this is the case you need to re-format your drive to OSX Extended, so you can record back to the drive in Pro Tools as well.

Still, this shouldn't cause you a problem with Playback because Pro Tools can still playback from this drive. Is the writing on the regions Italic? If so then the regions are not connected to the media and you need to relink it. It generally asks you when you load the session if it can't find the media, and it will open the task manager. Check find manually, and on each region select find all candidates and a list of files with that name will appear. Sometimes the file path gets messed up (pro tools creates an individual id number for each file and if the file doesn't contain this, even if its exactly the same file it won't relink it), but manually relinking fixes it this way will fix it.

I hope that cracks it.
