Hi folks,

My 1st post here. Complete newbie to Pro Tools/home recording. I have just completed my home set up... primraily for recrding accoustics drums.

Set up as follows:
iMac 2Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo, 2Gb RMA / leopard
Digidesign 003 rack
Berhringer ADA 8000 Ultrgain 8 channel A/D and D/A converter
Behringer B-Control Fader BCF2000-WH

I was sold the BCF2000 as a control surface that works with 7.4. I've done lots of web trawling, but can't seem to get it working.

I've set set the BCF to "baby HUI" mode per user manual. No problems there. I can "see" the BCF via midi connection through PT. The BCF faders work (briefly) but every 30 secs or so I get an error saying "HUI not recognised". It's driving me mad.

The Behringer site says I need to ensure the latest firmware is installed, but their documentation is so bad I can't even figure out how to check my current firmware (let alone how to upgrade).

Can somebody please help?... bearing in mind I am a complete novice to this stuff!

hey Yoda, I too have a BCF2000 and it works great with Pro Tools. I bought mine on ebay and it came pre-installed with the HUI emulation that works, but I did a lot of research into how to get the boy going.

You probably need to update the firmware on the unit. That can be found here:

Its version 1.7 and its in the browny box on the page.

To install it you need a midi dump tool like sysex librarian:

Then load this up and follow these instructions:

- Open the firmware file.
- Choose "Port 1" (the first BCF2000 port) from the Destination popup menu in the toolbar.
- Select the "bcf2000" file in the SysEx file list.
- Click the Play button in the toolbar (upper left).

This will then install the new firmware on your BCF.

Then open Apples MIDI utility on your mac (spotlight it or find it in the utilities folder). Make sure its seeing the unit as a midi in/out and set it if it isn't.

Then set it to BHUI emulation mode and load Pro Tools. Then go to setup>periphals>controllers and set the midi in/out to BCF2000 and the controller to Mackie Baby HUI.

Hopefully that'll do it.

Thanks - that's a comprehensive response. I picked up some of this during my web trawls yesterday, but missed out on the Apple MIDI utility. I'll check this when I get home - thanks for the response.

I made progress thanks to your instructions yesterday... with the updated firmware, PT now recognises the BCF. I can control PT functions for 30-60 secs, but then I get an error message saying the “Pro Tools cannot communicate with HUI. HUI is not connected/recognised. Check HUI connects & power cycle HUI again” I have to acknowledge this error before I can continue to use PT.

Not sure if this significant, but the Mac doesn't appear to "see" the BCF/external midi device when I go through systems preferences on OSX… maybe I’m looking in the wrong place (system preferences>sounds)

Any ideas where to go from here?

I should aloo add that I'm usually a PC/Windows person in my day job. I've only had the Mac a few weeks, so OSX is completely new to me!
