Basic MIDI Question 7 Months, 1 Week ago

This is my 1st time using this forum. Please excuse me for any ingnorance I appear to have.
I am running ProTools M-Powered 7 on Windows XP, using an M-Audio Project I.O firewire control sufrace. I also have an MPC-2000XL drum machine hooded up for my beats. I want to record the output of my drum machine into a ProTools track using the control surface midi time clock to control the drum machines timing (start, tempo, etc.).
My question is: how can I program the control surface in ProTools to trigger the drum machine (I know how to program the drum machine to receive the midi control signal).
I hope I didn't make this sound too confusing. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Search the reference guide for "MIDI Beat Clock", there is an explanation of how to set it up.
I am assuming you have your MIDI Studio setup correctly.

I did set up an Akai MPC-2000 profile in my midi studio setting in PT, but no luck. I tried using the ProjectMix Control Surface MIDI port and the ProjectMix External MIDI port options. Once selected, both yield an error message "ProTools is unable to connect with HUI..."
Did I miss a step?

In AMS if you double click on your midi device and then click on the "More Information" arrow near the bottom right, do you have a check in the box (under the "Receives" section) "MIDI Beat Clock"? This tells AMS to pass this information on to the device.

OK. Now here is where I will sound really stupid. What is AMS and where do I find it. I haven't seen those options while in ProTools or the control surface control panel software interface. I'm kinda new to using a DAW to control MIDI clock and tempo on legacy hardware.
Thanks for your help so far.

Sorry, I was mixing up two threads, so it is me that sounds stupid.
I was referring to the Audio MIDI Setup on Mac. I don't remember the PC application name, but it is something like MIDI Studio. So replace AMS with the MIDI setup utility for a PC.
