who here uses pro tools as a "stand alone DAW" 6 Months, 2 Weeks ago Karma: 0
Hey i just recently got pro tools m powered.
for the past 3 years i have been using fl studios, i just recently bought fl 8..

and i was just wanting to know who here uses pro tools as a stand alone DAW?

I was thinking of doing this. if i could convert my VST's to the RTAS format. and if i could only import my loops and samples in, which i haven't learn't to do yet.

The only thing i like about fl studios, (that is stopping me from using it solo) is the step sequencer, i haven't got rewire down, but could this do it?

You can get a VST wrapper to use vst plugins in pro tools, Importing audio/rex into pro tools is easy as pie and Pro tools has its own step sequencer.

Import your sounds to the region bin (the area to the right of your screen if you can't see it, hit the <<<<<<<< arrows to the bottom right of the screen) by literally dragging and dropping. To preview your sounds hold down the alt key, and you can hear them from this bin by clicking the file with your mouse.

To use your VSTs with Pro Tools get yourself FXPansions VST - RTAS adaptor:
http://www.fxpansion.com/index.php?page=15&tab=43

Get yourself the free version of Structure (software sampler):
http://digidesign.com/index.cfm?navid=32&langid=51&itemid=5223

Load up your samples into this on an fresh instrument track, and change the track view mode to notes, and get sequencing!

Loads of help in the form of the accelerated tutorial videos here:
http://digidesign.com/index.cfm?navid=199&langid=51&itemid=27606

Forget about Fruity Loops!!! Welcome to Pro Tools.............

Regions basically relate to any audio that is contained in your project - the region bin is in effect a 'file browser' for your audio. You can drag and drop your audio into here and then drop it into your edit window. Just a note to remember though - when you import audio into your project, Pro Tools will copy this into a 'audio files' foler in your project. So don't go chucking all your audio in, just what you need! if you want to preview your samples, then head to window>workspace. Click on the magnifying glass and you can search for audio by name or navigate to the containing folders, and preview it here before adding to your project. This is a real handy tool.

You might want to dl Xpand from digi as well, free software instrument.
