Installing plug-ins. Where? 6 Months, 1 Week ago Karma: 0
Ok, i'm fairly new to this. But i've been playing around with Pro-tools for awhile, and now the time has come for me to experiment with some other VSTs.

I have spent the last two weeks tearing my hair out trying to do this... It's been one problem after another. Finding plug-ins, download problems, installation problems, the list goes on. I've only just found out the other day that Pro Tools doesn't read VSTs. It reads RTAS files. Great!

So i've finally gotten past *that* problem. Converted the VST in question to RTAS.

And still, it wont show up in pro tools, when I go to create an insert on a track!

Am I installing it in the right place?! C://Program Files/Common Files/Digidesign/DAE/Plug-ins is where I have it now...

It *looks* like the right place to me... it's full of .dpm and .dpm.rsr files from xpand and sampletank, etc... And .dpm is what the end result of converting the .dll VST file was.

ARHHH!!! Too many acronyms!

I'll leave it there folks. So what am I missing? Any and all help would be greatly appreciated.

Your "converting" a VST to RTAS? How are you doing this? There is some software you can buy that will allow VST plug-ins to be used in Pro Tools.

Yes, that's the product I have and have used it to "unwrap" or convert the original .dll file to a .dpm and a .dpm.rsr (which i'm guessing make up the RTAS).

My problem now is where these files belong, so they can be read by pro-tools, and I can use them for MIDI, etc...

Unless there's something else i'm missing? What obstacle are you going to throw at me now, pro-tools?

I am having the same exact problem trying to use AutoTune. I didn't install the VST files in the designated pro tools file however thinking the fxpansion program would automatically find it anyways.

I'm looking forward to the reply to this problem as well. Thanks.

I'm having a related problem.

I've been running HD3 with Mac OS and thought I would demo the new L3-16 Multimaximizer from Waves.
I downloaded it, got it authorized and installed it.

But, for some reason, it only shows up in AudioSuite. I can't get it to show up on any individual track plugins, much less the Master track where I really need it.

I've obviously overlooked something but can't figure it out. Any clues?

Thanks.
