Just curious as if this even exists. Does anyone know of where i can find audio files or PT sessions intended for practicing mixing? I record and mix mainly folk and bleugrass , but would like to practice with other genres. I've done a bit of searching on the internet but havent been able to find anything.

Actually, some bands like Nine Inch Nails release the PT sessions of some of their songs for download. Other stuff you kinda have to dig for. My buddy just acquired the leaked 4-track sessions of four songs from the Sargeant Pepper album, which he loaded into PT and began remixing himself. Hope that helps a little.

Unfortunately, the tracks that NIN and others have put out are basically stems, so instead of 4-X tracks of drum tracks, you get a stereo mix of the drums (often with the effects they used). Duncan Sheik also put out the album "White Limo" with the tracks. On the digi site there is a link to some tracks from Crystal Method for a little re-mix contest, which you don't have to enter to download the tracks. So these tracks are okay for practicing mixing but you aren't getting "real world" mixing practice.

I have found a few like the band "Life in the Bush of Ghosts" (I think thats the name) which has David Burne (of Talking Heads). I think I have a couple tracks that they realeased (individual tracks from the 24-track analog master). These type of things are harder to find. I have a few other very cool tracks, but I don't want to mention them as I don't believe the artists intended for them to be widely distributed.

You can also find tracks that come as supplements to books. The Pro Tools certification books (at least 101 and 110) come with some tracks on DVD, as well.

If you like metal (and the out-of-tune thing) you probably won't like the Bush of Ghosts (and the correct name is "My Life in the Bush of Ghosts" I mentioned but here's the link:

You can also find tracks at Peter Gabriel's Real World project here:

The NIN stuff is here:
