Hey all,
There is also the NT2000 and the NT2-A which has adjustable cardioid pattern and high and low cutoffs which may turn out to be more versatile although any of the three would be a great investment.

For cheap, maybe the tried and true Shure SM58 or Sm57, these are not overtly expensive,
and fairly common, could get a good one second hand to diminish the cost a bit.
