RECORDING Q'S.... 4 Months, 1 Week ago Karma: 0
I recently brought this up but did not get the answer I was looking for. Maybe someone can help today.

When I record guitar on one of my songs and make a mistake in the middle, is there a way to punch right in and record at the part where I messed up, or do I have to rerecord the whole part?

Does anyone know what I am talking about?

I guess here is another scenario. I am trying to record rhythm guitar on my song. I want to record the rhythm on the first verse. I finish it. Then I want to record the rhythm on the chorus, which is next. I want to be able to start 5 seconds before the chorus without going over any of the verse that is before.

Let me know if this makes sense.

Make sure you're in auto-input mode, set your pre-roll to however much time you want to play before recording, click with the selector tool where you want to start recording, and start recording.

do you get any benefit from consolidating the regions after doing this?

I guess the benefit if any comes from your perspective. If you have a ton of edits on a track, then there is a benefit in a dense session as PT doesn't have to track and access all those files (just one). It also might be a benefit to the user not having to see all those edits. If you just have a few punches here and there I don't see the benefit to making it one audio file.
