What are the advantages/disadvantages of adding the M-Audio Profire 2626 to my current studio setup?
I am currently running Pro Tools M-powered 7.4, with an M-Audio ProjectMix, connected to an M-Audio Octane via lightpipe for added in's making a total of 16, using outs 1-2 of Pmix for KRK v8 monitors, and outputs 3-4 for a headphone amp. Will adding a Profire 2626 greatly increase my setup's capabilities? Is it advisable to get one? The studio is mainly used to record bands. The usual process: create a guide track, and simultaneously track the final drums using the octanes (kick, snare, 2 overheads, hihat, and 2 rack toms, and a floor tom, thereby using the 8 available ins of the octane). 2 guitars and bass then inputed to the 3 inputs of the pmix but only for scratch tracks since the pmix's pre's are not very good compared to the octane's. Final guitars and bass are overdubbed using the octanes ins for di, and simultaneous amp. Vocals are then overdubbed using the octanes ins. As you can see, I'm pretty much wasting the inputs of the pmix. Should I also get rid of the pmix? If so, what would a good alternative be?
