How to achieve ambient vocals like M83 3 Months, 2 Weeks ago Karma: 0
Hello everyone!

Im new to the site, and pretty new to pro tools as well. I was wondering if anyone could give me an insight or a good starting point to achive a vocal effect similar to those of the vocals from the artist M83?

The first song is a good reference.

M83

Im running PT 7.3 LE on mac mini core2 duo 1.83ghz, 2 gigs of ram..
Digi 003 rack

I really appreciate any ideas!

Thanks,
Jacob

The quality is sooooooooooo bad it is hard to say. It sounds like an 80's throwback (Thomson Twins like). With the obvious caveat, I'd say that was a fairly "lush" vocal treatment using layered (doubled and more) vocal tracks, some nice chorus, and a really nice "lush" reverb.

Yeah, it really does have an 80's feel to it, and yeah, myspaces mp3 quality is not good at all. The quality of the actuall ablum sounds much better. So, I never thought of chorus. Ill have to give that a try.

Thanks!

It almost sounds like a little bit of a phlanger on the vocals as well (man, that is bad quality).

Not to mention the synth part that almost doubles the lead vocal.
