updating HD rig 3 Months, 2 Weeks ago Karma: 0
My old G4 with the PCI slots has just died, so I'm facing either finding an older, used computer, or biting the bullet and updating to a Mac pro. Anyone had good or bad experiences using a chassis to get PCI HD cards to work on a Mac pro?

Maybe a second hand PCI G5 will be the most cost effective way to get going again? Big improvement on the G4.

The path to Mac Pro is an expensive one for us PCI guys, as it will ultimately end up in a hardware exchange to get PCIe cards, Leopard, expensive ram etc, etc...

Ever tried configuring a modest Mac Pro for PT at the applestore? Geez, Louise! It's like the bad old days when a six slot Mac tower nudged the $10k mark...

Happy hunting!

Yeah- I have since gone that very route. Going over to a Mac Pro would break the bank for sure.
I found a a pair of 1.8mhz G5's on Craig's List for a grand-for both- so I grabbed 'em up. Like many HD users I know, I'll keep running this trailing edge hardware as long as I can. It works!!
