you could also compress the audio file with the uLaw codec. Which basically converts it to 8kHz, 8bit mono

Well, Pro Tools comes with a bunch of plug-ins right out of the box. And since your footer says you are using Pro Tools 7.4, I know you have these. All you really need is an EQ and a compressor, and you have those.

Adding in a little distortion (and/or noise) is quite nice too. I depends upon whether you are going for "realistic" or a hyped or over-the-top phone sound. For example, when I use the phone voice on a radio spot I always go over-the-top with the effects to leave no doubt that is what is happening. If you have a visual cue to go along with the effect then you don't have to be so extreme with it.

I still dont understand...I have the EQ And Compressor But what do I Do with them, I tried Throwing everything down but I wasnt getting the Sound and when you say adding a lil distortion...How?
