Old G5 new Mac Pro 2 Months, 4 Weeks ago Karma: 0
I am new here so be gentle... I am operating a 003 FACTORY with a 3 year old Mac G5 Dual 1.8 GHz with 2G of RAM... I run ProTools 7.3cs7 and my OS is TIGER 7.3.10... I have had this system for around 9 Months and since the day i brought it home ProTools continually crashes! The Mac crashes also. Shy of adding more RAM I have tried everything.

I am curious to know if you think the DUAL 1.8 is too weak for the 003. I run a ton of Audio Midi and V-Instruments tracks. I also mix in-house so I use a lot of plug ins.

I have my thoughts set on picking up a Mac Pro 2.8 GHz 8 core this week... Will this make a big difference?

Lastly, what configuration is the most efficient for the 003? ie. Leopard w/ 7.4 or Tiger w/7.3?

Please help. Thanks.http://www.protoolsusers.org/components/com_fireboard/template/default/images/english/emoticons/sad.png

See my post about similar crashes using PT 7.4.2 LE, iMac & Mbox2 - Digidesign resolved it for me by asking me to do a clean uninstall choosing Option 2 and then re-installing plus the following:-
1) Trash Preferences:
Mac Hard Drive > Users > users file folder > Library > Preferences. Drag to Trash: com.digidesign.protools.plist, DAE prefs, Digisetup.OSX and any Pro Tools LE preferences files.

2) For all Mounted Hard drives trash Volume.ddb files:
Go to Mac Hard Drive (or the hard drive with your OSX installation)> Digidesign Databases > Volume.ddb.

3) Trash Databases Folder:
Mac HD > Library > Application Support > Digidesign > Databases > Trash Volumes folder. Empty trash.

4) Repair Permissions:
Mac HD > Applications > Utilities > Launch Disk Utility. Verify that the drive has been formatted HFS or HFS + and click on the First Aid Tab. Select Repair Permissions. Do this for All volumes. Restart.
