Interesting issue with my pc LE 7.3 2 Months, 2 Weeks ago Karma: 0
Hello Ptoolers...

Ok so here's the skinny on my issue.

Start up a new session.
Create some new tracks in said session.
Set my input to mic's... for any number of tracks.

Set track or tracks enabled... NO AUDIO coming through at all (that I can hear)I do see level... but hear nothing.

Though, I can record some audio while I can't hear it.

Here's a work around that has been working for a while since I have not sought out any help yet for a year. I've been going to (import audio) then clicking on a track... then playing it in the preview and then closing the whole import window.... after that; audio works on my record enabled inputs...

Any help on this would be helpful. Also, will an upgrade to 7.4 fix this issue? I've been putting that upgrade off for some time. I'll post another post to ask about that.

Thanks in advance!

Nope... I'm very familiar with all of that... not the problem. Thanks though

Just to be safe, I assume you've double-checked that the Outputs for each of your tracks are all routed correctly, and you've made sure everything is in order in the IO Setup page?

And that nothing silly is going on, like having an unused track in Solo mode or anything?

Can you hear the tracks you've recorded on playback (with the track NOT record enabled) before your work around?

The fact that your, shall we say ... unconventional work around actually works is truly baffling.

Upgrading to 7.4 shouldn't affect your issue (though, Elastic Audio is totally cool and well worth the upgrade price).

My first inclination would be to reset the I/O Setup and see if that clears things up. Then perhaps trying the old standby of trashing the preferences and Digidesign databases on all of your drives, or worst-case, re-installing Pro Tools all together.

Yes I've checked everything... this would be on a completely new session that is free of all the "one click away" sort of issues that people encounter.

I can't hear the recorded audio... I can see waveforms and I can see the meters going... yeah it's baffling to me. I figured someone would see it and know what I'm talking about but perhaps it's just an odd bug.

Should I just clear the prefs and all that other junk?

I have the 7.4 upgrade, and I have the music production toolkit as well for 7.4... but, will I have to completely uninstall 7.3 and MPT 7.0 before I upgrade? I haven't really wanted to upgrade due to not wanting plugins to maybe not work right etc... I own all my plugins and it wouldn't be an issue if to reinstall but damn that's a lot of time to reinstall.

Anyhow, this little problem still puzzles me.

Yeah, I would try the deleting prefs/databases trick, it often times clears up goofy things. There is that little utility program from the Digidesign website that will do it for you, makes it nice and quick.

Yeah, when upgrading to 7.4, it requires you to uninstall any previous versions of Pro Tools, but it leaves your plug-ins alone for the most part. You might have to reinstall the MPT (I can't remember, it was like 10 months ago for me), but that's better than having to do all of you plug-ins, and on the off chance that it clears up your playback issue, then it will be well worth it.

Good luck!
