Pro Tools Crashes when I want to save a session! 1 Month, 1 Week ago Karma: 0
Here's my problem. I'm running Pro Tools 7.4 on a Power Mac G5 with two external hard drives. A Glyph GT050 and Acomdata drive. Both I use for sessions. Just recently though, I started having problems saving sessions to my Glyph drive. When I try to save to my Glyph Pro tools crashes. I can save to my other drive with no problems. I checked the permissions on my Glyph and they're all correct, read/write, yada yada....I can save to the drive in other programs, just not with pro tools all of a sudden. Has anyone had this type of problem? Or is my hard drive ready to bite the dust.

Somehow i have the same problem.Out of nowhere, my sessions drive, stopped saving files to it.I didn't mind cause of my other hardrive, but after that now it won't let me close my sessions.I have to force quit pro tools and I been loosing a lot of sessions.I mean, the session still there, but all the audio files are gone.I've been having to go to the recovery sessions.I'm running on a MAC G5 too.So if anybody got any answer to this problem, please let us know!

Hey Juanchy,

Yeah it seems you have a similar problem but with a different result at the end. Your Pro tools won't close whereas mine crashes when I try to save to my Glyph drive.....Some how there is an issue between Pro Tools and the Glyph....I can't figure it out....Frustrating....Anybody have any suggestions??

This is only a test but worth a try. Recently, I've had a hard drive crash... sort of a soft-crash. If only I had understood it. The drive would start clicking in the middle of copying large, like 1-2 gig files from memory cards. later I was having similar problems moving these large files from one drive to another.

What I am suggesting is trying to transfer 1-2 gig files to and from the drive to see if they ever hang up. If they do, your drive may be telling you something [I found alerts in my logs when it was too late]. Whatever you do, if the drive *is* being flacky... DON'T DEFRAG! Crashing on defrag is what decimated my files, not the hardrive failure waiting in the wings.

Have you checked your drive set up in workspace (alt-; to access). Your session drive should be set to 'r'.

Also repair your disk permissions using disk utility (if your on a mac).

Also try trashing your preferences; this will solve a helluva lot of issues.

I did the disk permissions and my drive set up is set to 'r', but it didn't help. I'll try trashing my preferences. Thanks for the advise.
