No, that is not a question... rather an observation.

I'm a long time ProTools LE hobbyist who started with a DigiOO1 back in v5.3.1. ProTools has come a long way since then though I'm kinda frozen at 6.4cs9. I do have v7.0 and I have upgraded to the DigiOO2 but my Waves bundles have me stuck at v6.4. And I've been out of the scene for the last couple of years to boot.

So, the weather turned grayer here in the PNW and my recent rebuild of my hardrive let me reload my PTLE and an OO1 on my everyday computer. It is amazing how my fingers remember the critical shortcuts.

My "studio" consists of some nice pieces of hardware, which I still prefer over plugins. Lexicon Rocks! ...as I cut my teeth on the LXP-1. My rack includes the MPX-1, G2, R1, 550, LXP-5 and LXP-R1 along with a Masterlink & Presonus 8 mic pre. Somehow I think I might be thinning out the rack through ebay, though. I do monitor through a pair of Mackie HR824's but one has developed an intermittent open in one of the switches. That was the nail in the coffin for doing any real work on my rig.

My instrument of choice is the native american flute. A truly challenging instrument to both capture and process. ProTools does make it much easier to sculpt and carve a tune into something presentable. I also have a serious itch to load up a Reason Rack. I've got the right keyboard so we'll see if I can do some horse trading to get me there.

Anyway, glad you are all still here and hope to contribute from time to time and I know I can count on you to help me.

I got to say dude, there was lots of upgrades in 7.3 and 7.4. Are you gonna take the leap to 8 when it comes out? Man I gotta say 8 looks so sweet.

I *CAN'T* upgrade to 8... though I'd love to without getting totally $crew'd by Wave$.

I have a disc authorized Waves Platinum and IR-1 RTAS setup on my DIGIOO2 comp. I know Wave$ supports this forum so I'll be nice... but Wave$' greed at the time PTLE v6.9 came out was absolutely insane for the home studio hobbyist. And to have to pay nearly $1000!!! to upgrade was out of the question. So either I give up my Wave$ bundles, literally *burn* a $grand, or I stay with what I know until the hard drive craps out.

I heard things changed at Wave$, but the whole fiasco is what had me put away the audio tools for several years. Now that it is brought back up, the taste is still quite sour.

What they want $1000 for the upgrade!! So you are sure that your current bundle wont install on 7.3.

There are ways for you to get the upgrade for free when they try to screw you like this.

v6.7 of PTLE required a new Wave$ wave-engine-whatever-file and the only way you could get it from Wave$ was to stay current on their update plan which was cummulative from inception. I didn't want any kind of upgrade from what I had except to let it work with the newer versions of PTLE and for that I would have to pay out the nose. Wave$ also would not let me move my registration to an ilok without paying for the update plan. In essense, I had zilch support on my bundles without spending close to a $1000.

Wave$ has since lightened up a bit [at one point] and offered a grace upgrade which would still have been $400 for the two bundles I have. I was well outside the scene at that time they simply re-opened the wound they imparted to begin with.

I don't know what the current policy is. I think the resale value of my bundles is about nill. Wave$ was the *worst* investment in my studio *ever*! And probably in any other part of my life as well. I can't even get myself to log into my account to see what they have to say today.

I have some older sessions that were mastered with the Wave$ bundles on my OO2 comp that I need to be able to get back to. Personally, I wouldn't own another Wave$ product even if it was free. This level of greed is reprehensible! *Every* other bundle or package I own offered updates *for free* to keep up with PTLE's updates!
